Owais Awan is an Advocate of the High Court based in Islamabad. A graduate in Law and Politics from Cardiff University (UK), he specialises in contentious litigation, particularly trial court and appellate litigation involving complex civil and criminal disputes. He is also experienced in constitutional law and regularly appears before the Islamabad High Court, District Courts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, and various Tribunals.
Owais is internationally recognised for his pioneering animal rights and environmental litigation in Pakistan, most notably as lead counsel in the landmark “Kaavan the Elephant” case (2020) that resulted in the relocation of the world’s loneliest elephant to a sanctuary and established important precedents on animal welfare jurisprudence in Pakistan. He serves as legal advisor to several Not-for-Profit Organisations (NPO) such as FOUR PAWS International, Strays Home Rescue Foundation and others. Owais is a member of the Pro Elephant Network (PREN) and Rewilding Academy. He continues to provide pro bono representation in public-interest and animal-welfare matters while maintaining a busy civil, constitutional, and criminal practice.
